The Start of a Big Weekend...

Last night I made two cakes and about a million cupcakes-- or so it seemed at the time!
First up was Peace Sign cupcakes for Ashley... Ashley is my friend Christina's daughter. She was very specific about what she wanted. When she and her mother came to pick them up last night, I realized to what extent the child is OBSESSED with peace symbols! She had a pair of peace symbol PJ pants, a peace necklace, peace earrings... I used marbled bright colored gumpaste to get a tie-dyed look and I made 24 peace symbols with the help of my darling husband!
Next I made a Florida Gators cake. Kelli-- a girl from work, is totally in love with Tim Tebow so this was the perfect cake for her!
Finally I made a 6" square cake for the top of a stack of cupcakes. Julia and I bought napkins for a wedding celebration at work and I based the cake design on the napkins.

Golf, a Wedding and a Bright Baby Shower

Last week was busy for me... I made a birthday cake, a wedding cake and cute little mini cupcakes AND sugar cookie favors for a baby shower-- and it was all by Thursday because I went out of town for the weekend!
The first was a cake for Avery-- he is quite a golfer. His dad is pretty athletic but surprisingly, the one thing dad does NOT play is golf! But Avery got a golf cake... it was white cake with chocolate icing and a fondant covered golf ball.
Next up: four dozen brightly colored mini cupcakes in both white and chocolate with matching iced sugar cookie favors. The baby shower was not traditionally themed so the cupcakes and favors were lots of fun to make.
Last, but definitely not least, I made a wedding cake for Wendi and Jerry. It was a two tier square cake with a deep red ribbon. It was topped with fresh flowers at the reception-- hopefully, I'll get some photos of the topper to post here.

Camden is 1!

Heather, from work, has a son who turned 1 last week. I love first birthdays-- not only are there always LOTS of pictures but the cake is always a centerpiece at the first birthday! Camden's cake was no exception! Heather asked for a cake shaped like a "one" with a dinosaur theme-- she even provided the dinosaurs! Take a piece of plywood custom cut by my friend Ryan, add 4 batches of cake, some green airbrushing, metallic copper letters and gumpaste leaves and you get a first birthday cake fit for... well, Camden! Everyone loved the cake and I look forward to making Camden's cake every birthday!
Camden's mom does an amazing job of keeping up with a blog for Camden and she posted his birthday pics here:http://camdenewing.blogspot.com/2010/02/21310-camdens-1st-birthday-party-roar.html

Super Bowl, a Birthday and a Baby Shower

Friday, I made a cake for a guy at work who LOVES the New Orleans Saints! His team asked me to make the cake and they ordered an official commemorative Saints jersey for him as well. He was so excited when they gave it to him... I believe there were tears! He found me later and gave me a big hug. To everyone's disappointment, he refused to cut the cake, instead he took it home to save it for his Super Bowl Party.
I was up until about 2 AM Saturday morning but I got back up at 5AM to finish my next cakes. The firetruck cake was a cake for a little boy named Crawford. I made his first birthday cake and some cookies for his second birthday. His mom ordered little stand-up firemen made with a picture of him. If I get pics from the party, I will try to post them.
The second cake was a nautical themed baby shower cake made for a party hosted by my friend Jennifer. The baby's room was decorated in Baby Gap's nautical themed bedding so I used that as a theme for the cake.

Catch up...continued!

The first cake was white cake with buttercream topped with a gumpaste owl.
The final cake was somewhat of an insider joke. My FIL is famous for wearing a yellow hat so we celebrated his 10 years with the company with a yellow hat with the company logo.
